On Thursday 6 June, Carr Founding Principal Sue Carr was awarded the prestigious Legacy Award at the Victorian Property Council’s annual People in Property Awards (PIPA) at Centrepiece, Melbourne.

The annual Legacy Award celebrates an individual whose achievements and contributions to the industry will be remembered for generations to come.
Presenting the award, Property Council Victorian Executive Director Cath Evans highlighted Sue’s lasting impact on Victoria’s built space, while also paving the way for women in the industry.
“Since founding her studio in 1971, Sue has proven again and again what timeless design means. From artfully designed residences and hotels to polished industrial spaces and office buildings, Carr is known for its innovation, creativity and longevity. Sue’s contributions extend beyond design. She has been a passionate advocate for education and for supporting women in business, receiving a Member of the Order of Australia in 2021. The Legacy Award recognises individuals who have left a remarkable impact on the industry. We couldn’t be more delighted to recognise and thank Sue for her contribution.”
Backed by Carr Directors Stephen McGarry, David Brooks, and Richard Beel, and CEO Nick Carr, Sue remains committed to championing the role of design in enhancing everyday experiences across all project types.
Some of Sue’s notable projects include award-winning hotels, Jackalope on the Mornington Peninsula and United Places in South Yarra, the Australian Stock Exchange, and a series of cutting-edge workplace fit-outs for some of Australia’s leading companies and law firms.

Speaking at the awards gala, Sue shared, “While I am incredibly humbled to receive the Legacy Award, and to join the ranks of past recipients whom I deeply respect and am proud to call friends, this award is not mine alone. It is a testament to both the visible and unseen strength that comes from collaborating with the extraordinary individuals at Carr, whom I am honoured to call my team.”
As always, Sue looks ahead to the future with optimism and resolve. With the recent completion of milestone projects Como Terraces and 116 Rokeby, and the launch of the Brisbane studio, Carr readily embraces evolution with an enduring commitment to creating exceptional spaces, collaborating with inspiring individuals, and tackling original design challenges.
Thank you to the Property Council Victoria for the recognition, and congratulations to all the award winners.
