Norton Rose Jakarta

Interior Design 2011

Following the success of a national rollout of workplaces, the Jakarta office of Norton Rose (Susandarini & Partners in association with Norton Rose Australia) is the first international collaboration between Carr Design and the progressive law firm. Norton Rose requested for an expression of Balinese culture without compromising the consistent brand message and workfloor aesthetic present in other tenancies. The resultant design reflects Norton Rose’s global culture and identity but with a very specific reference to the Indonesian locality.

Taking advantage of an irregular shaped floor plate that included a highly internalised entry area, Carr concentrated on creating an intimate environment that visually blurs perimeters and expands space. A local reference to Indonesian culture was realised through a custom screen inspired by traditional shutter windows and mirrored wall panelling gives the impression of extended space. Significant use of bronze detailing, natural stone and timber are complemented by a sophisticated neutral colour palette and considered lighting.

Workfloor areas continue the kit of parts system developed for other Norton Rose tenancies. Modules comprise of single office, dual offices, semi enclosed offices, open plan desking and utility components. A gradating spectrum of colour has been employed as a navigation device to nominate positions north and south of the central reception zone.

This project was delivered through a combination of Carr studio based design services and Indonesian based documentation and construction programming. With the client located in Sydney and the site in Jakarta, Carr worked predominately from Melbourne utilising technology to define the project requirements and communicate complex design concepts.

Layouts were developed utilising structural grids and accompanied by photo realistic computer generated images.

Carr attended review of design and services documentation in Jakarta, together with participation in head contractor selection and local furniture procurement.
